DIGITHEAD in Retrospect:

Through the Eyes of Chip King, Co-host.  Owner KING MACHINE WORKS-Caroga Lake, NY

I can still see Jim sitting in a chair on Cinco de Mayo at a party our close friend Paul always has back in 1999.

Jim was there telling me of his new endeavor, Digithead, a new computer show that explores how computers better our lives and in what ways. It was already airing on CABLEVISION.   As he spoke I was thinking about what I do as a profession dealing with automation and robotics, installing embedded computers into an industrial process and how that could be a topic for his show.  As our conversation wound around it finally was decided to make an attempt to shoot such a piece.  That was the start of what would be the most fun a guy could have with his clothes on for the next three years.

After we shot the first show highlighting the kind of work I like to do, Jim already had plans for me as a guest host.  But as we progressed into the next several shows Jim asked if I would mind being the main host.  I agreed.  Now Digithead, the Compunet TV show had a host named Chip!   How much better could that be?   From there I was under the expert tutelage of Jim.  He taught me much about TV and its workings.  Starting with our first shows being live to tape; there were many exciting moments as we worked through the months.  Jim was amazing… as soon as we finished one show he already had another one lined up.  Every month for the three years I worked with him on a show that went out every month.  I wondered how he did it.

Through the years, we became very good friends, spinning up ideas for the show---Jim always looking for some way to make Digithead better, either by story line, different guests or by production values-- Jim was determined to make something out of these ideas.  He was remarkable to that end.

The 25 shows I was involved in with Digithead was one of the better things I see having done in my life.  Jim was the cause for that and because of him, I now have helped left behind something tangible for other generations to view and learn from.  All because of the vision my friend Jim had about reaching out to people so that they could learn something new about what these devices called computers are and see what they do for us.  This was in 1998.

It has been many years since we have done a Digithead show.  I have had the luck to work with Jim on other projects, a documentary on the Seeing Eye and how they train dogs for service, and another on interior design along with a music video tutorial on 12 String Bass playing.   All ideas that help others, teach by showing, learning by the experience that Jim puts to the screen.

Galileo Productions under the control of Jim has become one of NJ’s better secrets that is there turning out some of the better independent films for all to see, catch one soon and learn something new!
